Atlanta LGBTQ Healthcare

Intown Primary Care takes pride in creating a non-judgmental, safe, and welcoming environment that serves individuals who identify themselves as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Transgender.

We provide access to quality health care and understand the elevated physical and mental health risks such as suicide, HIV, cancer, and other chronic diseases. We do not discriminate because of pre-existing conditions.  At Intown Primary Care we treat all of our patients with excellent personal care.

Why Should I Choose an LGBTQ Doctor?

LGBTQ patients are more likely to feel comfortable discussing health concerns and experiences with someone who understands the unique challenges that come with identifying as LGBTQ+. When seeing a heterosexual doctor, it can be difficult for some LGBTQ+ individuals to open up about specific issues due to fear of judgment or discrimination. A gay doctor can provide the acceptance and understanding necessary to create a safe environment for open dialogue.

Additionally, LGBTQ+ individuals must consider specific healthcare needs that may differ from those of heterosexual individuals. LGBTQ doctors have the knowledge needed to address these concerns as they relate to sexual orientation, gender identity, HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, mental health issues, and substance use.

Finally, LGBTQ doctors can help guide transgender individuals through the process of transitioning. This includes providing information about hormone therapy options and psychological counseling that may help LGBTQ+ individuals feel more comfortable in their own body or gender expression. With this support, individuals have greater access to resources that can lead to better physical and mental health outcomes.

Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP)

PrEP has changed the landscape of HIV prevention. When taken as prescribed, the CDC reports that PrEP can reduce your risk of sexually transmitted HIV infection by 99%. Coupled with advancement in HIV treatment options lowering viral loads to undetectable levels, there is genuine hope for complete eradication of HIV by 2030.

HIV Treatment

Today there are more than 1.2 million people living with HIV in the United States, and an additional 35,000 new HIV infections every year. Georgia HIV infections rates are one of the highest in the country. According to Kaiser Health News, people of color are disproportionately affected by HIV.

HIV antiretroviral treatment (ART) and testing has significantly evolved since it’s first appearance in 1981. Additionally, many new treatment options are in clinical trials and a few are very close to receiving FDA approval. With these advancements and proper care, most HIV patients live a normal, healthy life.
